A Practical Tool for Pastors and Church Leaders
Unity does not become part of a church’s culture by accident. It must be taught, modeled, protected, and practiced until protecting unity becomes the normal instinct of the congregation.
The Congregational Unity Culture Assessment is a brief tool designed to help pastors and leadership teams evaluate how unity is currently experienced and practiced in their congregations.
What the Assessment Measures
The assessment considers ten important areas of congregational culture:
- Biblical teaching about unity
- The example of church leadership
- Walking consistently in the Spirit
- How promptly concerns are addressed
- The congregation’s response to gossip
- The ability to have difficult conversations
- Healthy disagreement
- Reconciliation
- Early correction of divisive behavior
- Prayer for unity
How to Use It
- Complete the assessment prayerfully with your leadership team.
- Invite congregation members to complete it anonymously.
- Compare the congregation’s responses with the leadership team’s perception.
- Pay special attention to significant differences between the two groups.
- Identify the two lowest-scoring areas.
- Choose one practical action to implement during the next thirty days.
The purpose is not to criticize or compare congregations. It is to encourage honest reflection and help leaders identify practical ways to strengthen the culture of unity.
